The last properly warm weekend
Wear the summer things now, properly, one more time. Most of them are going away for eight months.
Built on: Whatever you have been living in since June.
There is a specific late-August pleasure in wearing the summer accessories deliberately rather than by default, knowing it is nearly the last time. It is also genuinely practical: things put away unworn in September are things you resent buying, and half the point of a seasonal wardrobe is using it.
Everything here is either already yours or heavily discounted right now, which makes this the least expensive outfit on the site. Straw, shells, bright cotton and bare ankles are all at their cheapest in the fortnight before they stop being appropriate.
The one addition worth making is a chain belt, because it is the rare summer- adjacent buy that keeps working. Layered over jeans it carries straight into autumn, unlike almost everything else on this list.
Two practical notes for a hot day, since this outfit is usually worn in real heat. Metal jewellery genuinely gets hot in direct sun — a wide cuff on a bare arm at 95 degrees is unpleasant, and lighter beads or fabric are the better call. And sunscreen marks everything: shell, pearl, straw and pale leather all stain, so the order is sunscreen first, accessories second, with a few minutes in between.
Then put the straw bag away properly rather than crushing it into a cupboard. Stuffed with tissue, upright, and it comes back out in May looking like it did today.
