Margot Robbie’s one-necklace rule

She wore one borrowed historic stone and nothing else that competed with it. That restraint is the copyable part.

Wearing: Wuthering Heights premiere — Elizabeth Taylor’s Taj Mahal diamond

For the Wuthering Heights premiere Margot Robbie wore the Taj Mahal diamond, a heart-shaped inscribed stone that belonged to Elizabeth Taylor. It is a museum object with a documented provenance running back to the Mughal court, and it is the sort of loan that exists in a category the rest of us will never shop in.

Which is precisely why the interesting decision is not the diamond. It is everything that was left off. When you are wearing one object of that weight, the styling problem is not what to add but what to remove, and the answer was almost everything: no competing necklace, nothing at the wrist fighting for the same attention.

This is the oldest rule in accessory styling and the most consistently ignored, because it feels like under-dressing while you are doing it. It is not. A single piece that is clearly the point reads as a decision. Three pieces of similar visual weight read as indecision, and the eye has nowhere to settle.

The heirloom framing is also doing something. A stone with a history attached is being worn as a piece of storytelling rather than as a display of expense, and that is a meaningfully different register — which is why archival and antique-cut jewellery has become the direction of travel at this level.

What transfers

Pick the piece that is the point, then take off the things that argue with it. If two pieces are of similar size and similar shine, one of them is costing you the other. This works at every price: a single good pendant on a bare neckline outperforms three chains that are each fighting for the same six inches of skin.

The principle, not the stone: one pendant with clear visual weight, worn alone.
